Located at the end of Climping Street in an area known as Atherington, a village that has been partially lost to the sea, there is a car park, cafe, toilets and showers. Apparently, some Doctor Who scenes were filmed here in the 60/70’s!
There is limited free parking on the road and the privately owned car park is £1.50/hour or £7.00 for the day, 8 am to 8 pm.
The beach of shingle and pebbles features a series of wooden groynes to protect the coastline. The sea is shallow and when the tide is out a large expanse of sand is exposed, making it ideal for families with children.
A short walk eastwards you will find the Littlehampton West Beach sand dunes and boardwalk, which is an area of special scientific interest. Here also are the West Beach Cafe, Littlehampton Golf Course and the remains of the Littlehampton Napoleonic Fort. Walking west of Climping Beach will bring you to the beach at Elmer. The area is backed by low sand dunes and fields.
