The Friends of Mewsbrook Park primary role is to encourage the participation of the local community in caring for one of Littlehampton’s finest parks. To achieve this we have a small committee which steers the focus of the group and seeks to increase membership.
We work closely with Arun District Council’s Parks and Greenspaces Service and Mewsbrook Park Café to ensure the park provides a popular site for relaxation and play whilst being mindful of habitat & heritage conservation and maintaining horticultural standards.
The group also raises funds from time-to-time to fund or part-fund various projects in the park which add to the visitor’s experience. We are also keen to see more inclusivity, and have recently joint funded a new accessibility bench for wheelchair users. Our most recent contribution to the park has been a new sculpture.
New members are always welcome, and those who have the extra time are encouraged to become committee members to help the group (and therefore local residents) have a voice about the park. Annual membership costs just £5. For this fee you’ll be invited to our AGM where you have the opportunity feedback directly to the committee or ask questions of ADC. You’ll also be invited to further meetings during the year as well having the opportunity to go on trips organised by the committee and/or ADC.
The group has a regular gardening program in the park, assisting the parks head gardener. New volunteers to assist with every day grounds maintenance tasks are always encouraged to get in contact. Insurance, tools are taken care of. There is also a cup of tea or coffee available.
