Littlehampton Town Mayor

Councillor Jill Long, who represents the Courtwick with Toddington Ward, became First Citizen on the 12 May 2022. The new Mayor succeeds Councillor Michelle Molloy.

Councillor Jill Long has lived locally since 1986, drawn by the Town’s seaside location and heritage.

Her long career as an administrator and manager in the NHS started at Graylingwell Hospital, Chichester, with later moved to work at St Richard’s Hospital, Worthing Hospital and Southlands Hospital, Shoreham.

In 2011, Jill left the NHS as a result of redundancy through restructuring; despite a challenging period, this proved to be very timely, as she had just been elected to Littlehampton Town Council, as a Councillor representing Beach Ward. Also, she has been a member of the Rotary Club of Littlehampton, and a Trustee of Safe In Sussex, the local charity providing help and support for people affected by domestic abuse in West Sussex.

During this first term as a Councillor, Jill was Deputy Mayor between 2013 and 2014, and was Town Mayor in 2014 to 2015. These roles provided a wide range of opportunities to really get to know the Town and its hard-working organisations.

Re-elected to the Town Council in 2019, Jill now represents Courtwick with Toddington Ward.

Jill became an elected Governor for the Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in 2015 until their recent merger, representing the Arun area. She has been involved with 5th Littlehampton Sea Scouts as chairman, and in her Mayoral year, her chosen charities were the three Scout Groups in Littlehampton. She is now chairman of Arundel & Littlehampton Scout District.

Jill has always been proud of her connections and involvement with Littlehampton, seeking ways to support the Town and to balance development with opportunities. It’s resilience and energy will stand it in good stead as we move out of the lockdown restrictions into greater achievements.

During her term as Mayor, Councillor Jill Long will be fundraising in aid of the Littlehampton & District Scouts, namely their campsite which is used by all ten Scout groups.
